Michael Reid: John Williamson, a British economist and compiler of the Washington Consensus, has died aged 83. Though much maligned, the core tenets of the Washington Consensus are more necessary than ever in Latin America. The problem was what it didn't say. RIP.
Dani Rodrik: Very sorry to hear of John Williamson’s passing. He will be remembered for the Washington Consensus which he named. But his own views were considerably more nuanced than what the Consensus came to stand for. He was no fan of financial globalization.
